Frequently Asked Questions
1. How many lessons will I need to complete the 22 competencies in the Log Book ?
This is usually the first question students ask and is the most difficult one to answer. We want you to complete the Log Book in the least number of lessons possible...but, we will not put anyone on the road who we deem to be unsafe and not competent. Firstly, it really all depends on the individual. Some students may have received extensive training from parents and friends, prior to their first Professional lesson. Others may have done very little or none at all. Some may have to re-learn techniques which are may no longer be considered to meet the required standards eg. steering, proper gear changing. Some students have a quicker learning capability than others and will obviously require less lessons. However, the Log Book will require a minimum of six lessons to complete. Again, let me stress that this would apply only to students who have had extensive correct tuition from parents/friends. Our Instructors will usually be able to provide you with an estimate after your first lesson.
2. Can I use my own car for lessons ?
Unfortunately, due to insurance complications, it is now our policy that students must use the Instructor's vehicle.
3. Will I be able to be picked up at home and dropped off at school ?
Of course....you can be picked up and dropped off at any address in the ACT. But please remember that if you are just starting lessons, you should allow the Instructor ample time to teach you the basics. In other words, try to avoid being picked up at one side of town and being dropped off on the other side if you are a new learner. This cuts the lesson time in half as most of the lesson is wasted just traveling from pick-up to drop-off.
4. How much notice should I give if I want to cancel a lesson due to illness eg.. ?
Please let our office know ASAP if you are unable to make your appointed time. Most days our Instructors are booked out and someone else may be able to take your place if adequate notice of your inability to attend is given. We do not charge a fee for cancellations but just remember that it could be you who is waiting for someone to cancel in order that you may get the spot you want.
5. I don't get along with my Instructor....will I be able to change to another Instructor ?
Yes you will be able to change at any time for any reason. Competencies already marked as "completed" will be recognized by your new Instructor. Also, if you wish to move to another driving school, competencies already "signed-off" will be recognized. A word of warning though...make sure your new Instructor is Accredited. Only Accredited Instructors can continue with completion of your Log Book.
6. Will I be able to contact your office after hours...will I get an answering machine ?
Our office is open from 8am to 7pm...and I guarantee you that you will never be "greeted" by an answering machine. Our policy is that someone will always be on the other end of the line between the above hours. Try us out...I'll bet you get to talk to one of our friendly receptionists.. 62595005.
7. How will I know if I've been booked for lessons with an Accredited Instructor ?
Easy...all Road Ready Instructors are Government-trained Accredited Instructors and are able to do Log Book Tuition. Some of our Instructors are even licenced to teach in NSW.
8. Will I be driving the car during my first lesson and not just sitting in a driveway ?
Guaranteed !! You will be taught the basics (take-off, steering etc..) if you are a complete beginner, in a quiet area (eg. car park) but, if you are considered to be safe by your Instructor, and you are confident enough in your own ability, be ready to drive when our Instructor picks you up !!
